Subject: I walked a 5K today ! 9days post-op

Hi,

I have to tell you all what I did today.... I walked a 5k. Yep...you read it right...a 5k walk. It was an AIDS benefit that our church decided to do as a mission project.....I heard about it before my surgery and just kind of blew it off...perfectly willing to write a check for the event.

Last night, my 11 year old says...hey that walk is tomorrow...let's go...then my older daughter called a few of her friends to join in...well now it just seemed like a party!!! I said that I would give it a try...but no promises!!! As luck would have it, today is the hottest day of the year so far here in Rochester, NY.....85 degrees hot and humid.

We get to the event and after standing around for an hour we finally start walking....I know this is a mistake after about 500 yards.....but my younger daughter hung with me saying how proud she was for me even trying to do this (I would've NEVER done it pre-op). As the crowds start to pass us I tell her to go on ahead with the other kids and I was just going to turn back and go to the car. So she takes off and I feel like I"ll just walk to the corner before I turn around...well, I made that corner and just kept on going....I did sit and rest for 2 minutes twice....and I was the tail end of the walkers....but I MADE IT!!!!!!! Two times patrol cars slowed down and asked me if I wanted a ride, but I thanked them and said I was determined to finish.

Finish I did......My kids saw me walking up and just came over and hugged me...they were worried when I wasn't in the car....they were so proud of me...I was proud of me too!!!!!!!

At one point, i was thinking I just had major surgery only 9 days ago...I am crazy.....but i was the little engine that could!!!! I am down 25 pounds since the surgery...I feel great...and grateful.

Thanks Again for listening to me ramble!!!! Karin
